Project Setup Standards

Project Setup is a set of tools and automations to make setting up new Revit projects take minutes instead of hours. It’s probably LVL8’s service with the highest value. That’s because you have the chance of setting up all your projects once and then reusing that work an unlimited amount of times. The more views and sheets your office typically handles the higher the value however, Project Setup Standards is suitable for smaller studios as well. Here are some of the benefits of having strong Project Setup Standards:

  • Consistency. Develop or refine project structure, naming conventions, and other rules to create consistency throughout projects and designers.

  • Time savings. Save time by not creating your typical views and sheets manually every time. We call this the Core of the project setup.

  • Automations. Automate the creation and renaming of all the non-typical views and sheets. This may include new naming conventions, phasing, design options, etc…

  • Flexibility. This set of tools is 100% flexible and scalable so no matter whether your project setup is predictable or always different, we strongly believe we can help.

The example below shows the different degrees of standardization and automation that different firms have. The workflows will vary but the common denominator is “time savings”.

  • Firm A is able to standardize 70% of the project structure (views and sheets) which means that they will automate the remaining 30%.

  • Firm B’s project setups vary to the point that they can only standardize 40% of the process. Automation will play a greater role here at 60%.

Project Setup Highlights

The following are the standard steps we will take during the Project Setup Standards development:

MANAGE REFERENCES

When you start a project, it’s good practice to start setting up references such as levels, project location/coordinates, scope boxes as well as the visibility of any linked files you may use to get started (Revit or CAD). LVL8 will help you ensure your Project Setup Standards are included and easy to follow when working with your Revit template.

VIEW SETUP

We help you work out or refine your view structure and standard naming convention. The views will be incorporated into the template and documented in the guide that we will provide.

VIEW ALIGNMENT

We incorporate the tools to ensure that plan views are aligned (stackable) from sheet to sheet and elevations/details are set on a grid on sheet.

SHEET SETUP

Depending on your level of standardization versus automation we can help either generating all the sheets or set up sheet templates and automations tools for you to use when you start new projects. We also have the option to place views on sheet if it makes sense for you: it doesn’t provide a very clean result, but if you have lots of sheets it can save you hours.

  • Updated Revit Template with all the new Project Setup tools ready for use.

  • Project Setup Guide. A practical and succinct how-to document to guide users through the process of getting projects ready.
