Container Files

Parametric content saves time, but it needs to be tested and visualized in multiple views in a “showroom” or project file outside the template. Content here can be kept on the same “Revit development version” (a few years older than the latest so that it can serve all projects) and can be used to quickly “shop” for the right family as opposed to spending time searching and adapting. Specifically, this is content that you don’t need in the main project template and that you would rather store separately.
Here are a few ideas for container files:

  • Fill Patterns

  • Dwelling units

  • Toilet layouts and toilet accessories

  • Furniture and light fixtures

  • By discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing)

Key Benefits

Adopting standard content will allow you to work out and approve the content with the help of key people in your organization.

APPROVED

Containers give you the ability to create clusters of content that works together (dwelling units, toilets) including relationships and spacing.

LAYOUTS

PARAMETRIC

Content is developed in a model with the same parameters for ease of tagging and scheduling without additional work during design.

Approved content that works will help limit the online search for content that typically generates consistency issues.

TRUSTED

The content should be named, grouped, and sorted correctly so it’s easy to find.

ORGANIZED

  • A Revit model containing families that are placed and grouped in a way that makes sense and shown in multiple views to ensure that the graphics work in every situation. The content is properly purged, tagged and schedule.
